The Great Veggie Grow-Off is a county-wide friendly competition among private and community gardeners to see which community can grow/donate the most produce to their local food bank. The above picture is just to show how the competition is growing for The Hunger Stop. We will update it every couple of weeks; stay tuned.
This is the 8th year for this competition. Anyone who has fresh extra produce is encouraged to consider donating it to their food bank – our clients love the addition of healthy, fresh foods for their families and seldom have the space for their own gardens.
As an aside, Mississippi Mills was the undisputed champion of this competition until 2019 and we think they are working double time to regain their crown (actually, it’s a trophy). The bar was set to 20,000 lbs. for Lanark County for 2021 – we are going to need more carrots on our meter!
Whichever town/food bank brings home the cup, it is the families we serve that win. Thank you.
