Grocery stores are wonderful for providing nearly all produce year round. For those of us dealing with short growing seasons, this means access to delicious fresh food any time of the year. We have regular access to sweet peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms and apples, just to name a few.
However, fruits and vegetables in season are usually fresher, tastier, local, and less expensive that their out-of-season counterparts. A great way to eat well and save money is to suss out these seasonal treats. Below is a list of Ontario fruits and veggies generally available in winter. Of course, our climate means that these foods are grown and harvested earlier in the year and keep well throughout the cold season.
