Hi, I’m a local Beekeeper and wanted to know if you would accept honey. I am not labeled for retail sale but am allowed to give and sell myself at farmers markets and from home. Let me know, thanks.

I am afraid your product would fall under the “home-made” category – which is a shame. Fresh, pure honey would be such a treat. So the answer is no – we cannot accept. We really appreciate your asking us.

Ah, ok I thought it may be a issue. I will see how else i can get the honey to help out. Thanks, will be in touch.

I grew too much leaf lettuce. If it sits too long it would go wilty, currently growing. Can you use it?

Sure can! Our folks love the fresh produce.

When would be a good time to drop off lettuce to you, tomorrow? Or is there another day that is better for you?

That is a tricky question. Is it a store bought lunch? Has it been kept frozen? Has its best before date past? Sorry to be so picky but food bank rules are very strict.

I have noticed on facebook posts recently, that there is a lot of confusion over the difference between best before dates and expired food. Will you accept food that the best before date has passed? I know that expired food is a hard no and should be composted. There seems to be little clarification out there. What is your position on this?
With thanks,

Hi Barbara – we do accept non-perishable food past its best before date … up to a year past … which are the guidelines we have from Food Banks Canada. We give expired and food that is more than a year old to a farmer who feeds their stock.
